When you are looking for a new sofa for your home, you are often faced with a difficult decision between choosing leather or fabric. Both have their pros and cons, which can make the decision even more challenging for homeowners. Below we have included a few points to consider when buying your new furniture to help you make the right choice for your home.

Durability

One of the most important things when considering your new sofa is durability. If you are spending lots of money on a new piece of furniture, you want to be sure that it will last for a long time. Better quality of fabrics and leather will ensure that your sofa lasts longer, and is definitely something to consider when planning your budget.

Fabric covered sofas are more likely to experience colour fading over time, especially if they are in direct sunlight. Leather, on the other hand, is more likely to get scratched or ripped, especially in households with pets.

When it comes to durability, the distinction between long lasting furniture and furniture which gets damaged is more likely to be determined by the quality of fabric or leather, rather than a positive of one type of sofa.

Style

Leather is a great way of bringing elegance and a luxurious aesthetic to a room. They go very well with both traditional properties, as well as more contemporary and modern style interiors.

Though leather sofas are often used as statement pieces in homes, recent years have seen furniture designers really upping their game in terms of releasing unique, eye-catching fabrics. Now the market is filled with fantastic fabric patterns which means that you can usually find a sofa to match any room designs you have, no matter how distinctive.

Price

Similarly to durability, the wide range of leather and fabric sofas on the market means that prices are extremely variable. For signature fabric sofas, or more intricate designs, the price for fabric sofas may be slightly higher than that of leather sofas.

Comfort

Where comfort is concerned, many people who vote fabric sofas as the winner of the two. Though fabric sofas can vary in quality, leather sofas have a tendency to get cold in the winter and absorb heat faster in the summer.

Maintenance

Leather is very easy to clean, meaning that it requires very little maintenance. Sometimes leather can be stained if it comes into contact with certain materials so it is worth keeping an eye on your furniture and making sure that you clean up any spills as soon as they appear.

Most fabric sofas are designed with stain resistant finish which means that most spills can be removed fairly easily.

Support

When it comes to support, leather sofas generally come out on top. Though supportive fabric sofas are available, commonly, leather sofas are firmer and will offer more reinforcement to people who need it.

In summary

These are just a few of the things that you could consider when you are looking to purchase your sofa. Of course, there will be design and personal preferences which will be important to consider as well but barring these other factors in mind will hopefully make your life easier when it comes to shopping for the new best seat in the house.
