Exciting New Kent Business Partnership

 – A Celebration of Local Creativity!

We are delighted to announce that we have recently formed a partnership to work with local business Elvis & Kresse, who use world-class traditional craftsmanship to produce luxury home and personal accessories from reclaimed materials.

Set up in 2005, Elvis & Kresse began making belts and then bags from decommissioned fire hoses which would have otherwise been thrown out. For over a decade now, none of London’s fire-hose has gone to landfill and over 175 tons of material has been reclaimed. Elvis & Kresse have continued rescuing raw materials, now recycling more than 10 different resources, transforming them into exclusive lifestyle accessories and donating 50% of profits back to charities.

In 2017 the Burberry Foundation partnered with Elvis & Kresse to tackle the global problem of leather waste. This five-year partnership will see at least 120 tonnes of leather off-cuts from Burberry recrafted into new luxury items, including bags, rugs and cube pouffes, designed and sold by Elvis & Kresse.

To mark the start of our partnership, Lukehurst and Elvis & Kresse are hosting a special, one-off event at our Sittingbourne store on Thursday 28th March, from 5 to 8pm. There will be short talks by Kresse Wesling, co-founder and co-owner of Elvis & Kresse, at 5:30pm and 7:15pm, as well as demonstrations showing how the shaped leather offcuts are joined together to make the rugs and other products. Samples of the leather pieces also will be available for guests to have a go themselves. A range of Elvis and Kresse’s products will be on display, giving people the chance to ‘touch and feel’ them.

Kathryn Lukehurst, our MD, commented, “We are really excited about this partnership. Elvis & Kresse are a fantastic company, and we are delighted to be working with them. As a well-established Kent business, it is great to partner with another Swale company, helping to raise their profile locally and bring their fantastic products to market.”

Keen to promote Kent and its fantastic range of businesses, we are also collaborating with The Dog at Wingham and Copper Rivet Distillery for the event. Both will operate pop-up bars, with The Dog at Wingham providing fizz, ales, soft drinks and canapes, and the Copper Rivet allowing guests to sample their locally produced gin and vodka.
