How do you know if you need a new bed?

Did you know you spend around one third of your life asleep? And over seven years, your mattress will be used for up to 20,000 hours?

Regular quality sleep on a comfortable and supportive mattress and bed has a positive effect on our health and wellbeing. The right mattress and a comfortable bed can help give a good night’s sleep, leaving you refreshed and restored, whereas poor quality sleep can leave you with fatigue and tiredness. Research shows that an uncomfortable bed and mattress can rob you of up to an hour’s sleep each night, but because the deterioration is gradual and often invisible, many people don’t realise this is the cause of their poor sleep.  

Mattresses don’t last forever, and even if they still look ok, they may not be as supportive and comfy as they should be. But there is no set time for when you should replace a mattress - the lifespan is affected by several things, including the quality, care and amount of use (a mattress that is used each night for reading, watching TV & sleeping will not last as long as one used occasionally in a spare room). Even if your mattress is still in good condition, lifestyle changes can mean your mattress is no longer as suitable for you, for example if your weight has changed a lot or if you used to sleep alone but now share with a partner, or vice versa.

So how do you know if you need a new mattress? There are a few things to consider:

• Did you sleep better a year ago?
• Have you had your mattress longer than 7 – 10 years?
• Do you wake up with stiffness and/or aches and pains?
• Do you sleep better in a different bed?
• Does your mattress have visible signs of age, such as being lumpy, sagging, etc?

If your answer to all these questions is no, then your current mattress is probably still fine. If you answered yes to any of these questions, is there any other reason that you can think of to explain why you answered yes? If there isn’t another reason, it may be that you need a new mattress, especially if you answered yes to more than one of the questions.

How would you style the G-Plan Washington ?

New Step-free Access to 1st floor Rainham, 50th Birthday & Future Plans

New Step Free access to 1^st floor at Rainham

We have installed a Stannah stairlift in our Rainham store, to help customers, who find stairs difficult, to access our first floor showroom more easily. 

Customers can ring the doorbell by the back door (in Cricketers' car park) and we will then let you in and help you with the stairlift.

The lift is fully commissioned and ready for use.

In October, Lukehurst will be celebrating 50 years in retailing. We had hoped to mark the occasion with a special in-store evening event, but due to the current social distancing guidelines, we do not feel this is appropriate.
However, we are determined not to let this wonderful milestone pass unnoticed, so we are planning some special offers for our Winter sale - look out for details nearer the time.

Website Upgrade
We are currently upgrading our website to make it easier to look for and buy products online.
This is quite a major project which we will be working on over the next few months. Hopefully the new website will be up and running in the new year, but we will let you know when it is ready to go live.

Expansion Plans
We were due to have built the new mezzanine in our Sittingbourne store this year, to give us more showroom space to display a wider range of products. However, due to the trading difficulties this year, we have now taken the decision to postpone this until next year.
Although the project has been delayed, we are still thinking about and planning this new area, in particular the types of products and displays to feature.

Store Re-opening and Special Discount for NHS & Care Workers

We are please to let you know that we will be re-opening our stores on Monday 1st June and re-commencing deliveries. We have discussed this with our local Trading Standards office, and they are happy with our plans to re-open.

Your Safety

The safety of our customers and staff will be of paramount importance to us, so please be assured that we will have a range of measures in place, to help prevent the spread of Covid-19. Full store risk assessment report.

In Our Stores

Within our stores, we will have:

• Hand sanitiser
• Liquid soap for hand washing
• Social distancing posters to remind everyone about keeping a safe distance apart
• Floor stickers
• Perspex screens at payment desks
• Fabric sanitiser to spray on fabric and samples as needed
• Facemasks and disposable gloves for staff to use as needed
• Regular, thorough cleaning

Private Appointments

If anyone is worried about visiting the stores whilst other people may be there, we are happy to arrange a private appointment, either before or after store hours. Please ring us on 01634 387 234 or send an email to customerservices@lukehurst.co.uk.

Other Measures

However, we realise that it is not just within store that new health and safety measures are important. For both our customers and staff, it is also vital that we have suitable procedures and supplies in place in our warehouse and for deliveries.

Within the warehouse, we will have:

• Hand sanitiser
• Liquid soap for hand washing
• Social distancing posters
• Face masks

For deliveries, we will:

• Contact the customer prior to delivery to make sure they are happy to receive the delivery, keeping the required social distance, and to check that they do not have any of the key Covid-19 symptoms
• Provide all delivery team members with hand sanitiser, as well as facemasks and disposable gloves to use as required
• Provide sanitiser bombs for use if necessary

Covid-19 update for our customers - a message from our MD, Martin Lukehurst

Dear Customers,
 
During this unprecedented upheaval to life as we know it, we wanted to write to you and wish you all good health and hope that you manage to avoid this virus that is sweeping our nation. I, myself, will be self-isolating for the foreseeable future. It will be a difficult period and all businesses are going to suffer. We are in this together and hope that here at Lukehurst, we can weather the storm, so we are here for another 50 years to serve our customers.
 
With this in mind we will remain open as long as we can. We are taking all government advice around the cleaning of our premises and social distancing in store. Our online service is available for any of your furniture needs and we will be available on the phone to discuss orders, deliveries and general enquiries for those who cannot venture out. If anyone would like to arrange a private appointment with us either before or after store hours, we’d be happy to set this up. If the government makes a move to shut down all business, we will have to rely on these methods even more as our stores will have to close.
 
We had planned to host a MEGA SALE in March and April of this year to prepare our Sittingbourne store for the revamp with a new mezzanine level. This has had to be postponed, but when we are all back on our feet, we will launch it and let you know the start date.
 
We hope to see you all in store very soon.
